Competitor Analysis

To identify what features I wanted PageTurner to have, I first took a look at other book tracking alternatives. I found six other apps and/or websites to compare and gathered information about how they function and how users feel about them. The following is the result of that research.

CompetitorWhat Is Missing/Wrong
• Rating system does not allow the use of half stars
• Only annual reading goals
• Focus on exploring new books instead of working through a user’s TBR
• You must pay for a subscription for unlimited book tracking (free version only allows 10 books at a time)
• No community features
• Some users complain of frequent glitches
• App library does not have all books, so readers may not be able to track some of their books
• Cannot add the date of when you finished a book
• Some users complain it is slow
• Limited rating system
• Focus on community interactions make it difficult to find actual reviews (platform supports photos; many to scroll through)
• Have to write a review for books when you add them to your library
• No community features/recommendations
• Can import books from Goodreads, however users have to retag and remark every book as read or unread
• Non-intuitive interface
• Limited community features
• Desktop only, not mobile supported
